Lawn Bowls Section

Hong Kong Football Club is the leading Lawn Bowls club in Hong Kong. Club's ladies won the first division of the Hong Kong Lawn Bowls Association premier league in 2007, Club's men won the first division of the HKLBA premier league in 2006 and Club's ladies won the first division of the HKLBA triples league in 2006.

Lawn Bowls is a sport for all ages, all races, both sexes and for people of any physical build. Consequently the Lawn Bowls Section is one of a diverse range of people who have one common interest, playing the game of Lawn Bowls. With almost 200 Members, the Section runs regular internal competitions in all forms of the game on both indoor carpet and outdoor grass greens. These include Singles, Pairs, Triples and Fours competitions for Men and Ladies and Mixed teams.

Lawn bowls became the third sport played at Hong Kong Football Club in 1932 when the Club put down a bowls green in a parking area between the pitch and the pavilion in a previous configuration of Sports Road. In the new 1996 clubhouse, there is an indoor carpet green of six rinks and an outdoor grass green of six rinks.

Club first entered teams in the Hong Kong Lawn Bowls Association league championships in 1934. In 2007, Club entered five teams of 12 players per team in the Men's Premier league, while there were six teams of four players per team in the Ladies Premier League.

As well as strong representation in the First Divisions of each of these leagues, the Club is consistently amongst the honours at all levels and has been victorious on many occasions in the various National competitions.

Club will provide three of the ten players in the Hong Kong national side in the finals of World Bowls, to be played in Christchurch, New Zealand, in January 2008.

Club hosted the World Cup on its indoor green in 2005, and in May 2007 hosted the World Junior Cup. Club in February 2007 hosted the Hong Kong Football Club International Mixed Fours, sanctioned by World Bowls, with a world class field of 128 players including 76 from overseas countries.

These prestigious events demonstrate the high profile and reputation of Hong Kong Football Club in Lawn Bowls, but of equal importance to the Section is the capability to provide its Members with the opportunity to play the game and socialise among friends.
