W
ith January upon us now is a good
time to set those New Year resolutions,
the one’s that normally revolve around
abstinence from both food and alcohol
and a marked increase in exercise! For those of you that
decide none of these resolutions are applicable then
the
Real Companhia Velha Portuguese Wine Dinner
on Friday 25th January 2019 might be of interest?
Conversely, for those of you in resolution mode,
perhaps the talk by
Sheila Partrat on Saturday 12th
January entitled “Detox and Rejuvenate”
is more
appealing for those of you that are looking for a quiet,
more restrained January?
In keeping with the “restrained” approach many
congratulations are in order to Ally Murray the winner
of the recent Transformation Challenge. Unbelievably,
Ally shed some 14.8kgs – some transformation! And,
let’s not forget the 1st Runner up in the Challenge, Nick
Tempest, who lost a more than acceptable 11.5kgs!
On the grumble side of things we have noted that
an increasing number of members are not bringing
their membership cards to the Club and are regularly
asking Reception Staff to issue them Temporary
Membership cards for day use. You are reminded that
it is a requirement to carry your membership cards at
all times. If you have lost your membership card then it
is your responsibility to apply (at Reception) for a new
membership card. Reception Staff are not in a position
to issue Temporary Membership cards to the same
person on an ad infinitum basis.
As regards Chinese New Year the Chairman has
outlined in his article when the Club will be closed
during the holiday period but please also have a look
at the revised opening hours for food and beverage
outlets over the New Year period (which is on page
9) as some of these will be different to our normal
opening hours. Don’t forget too, our
Chinese New
Year Bazaar in the Lockhart Room which is open
on Saturday 19th January from noon to 6pm.
For lovers of American Football, put
Monday 4th
February
in you diaries for our
NFL Super Bowl
Breakfast held in the Sportsman’s Bar and shown
“Live” from 7am.
And, a little bit of advance notice as regards the
Lion Dance starting at the Front Entrance of the
Club which will be on Sunday 17th February 2019
from 11.30am.
As usual, if you haven’t seen this
beforehand it is well worth watching!
On behalf of the Management and Staff of the Club,
I would like to wish everyone a very Happy Year of
the Pig.
Kung Hei Fat Choy!
I look forward to seeing you all at the Club!

General Manager
