THE JAPANESE, TAIWANESE AND INDIAN TAKE

• AKASHI (Japan, White Oak)
Made from Scottish malts in Japan’s smallest whisky distillery, the AKASHI White Oak is a pleasant Young Whisky. It’s Malty, citrusy aroma with scents of black cherry, toffee and oak come to the fore and work the nose. Notes of vanilla and pine nuts dominate the palate, and lead to a long, malty finish.

• KA VA LAN Solist Bourbon Cask Strength (Yilan Taiwan, Single Malt)
Sweet and Rich, but not sticky or cloying. Rounded spice, creamy barley and oak, more vanilla, pear drops.

• AMRUT Peated Single Malt 46% (Bangalore, India, Single Malt)
Unusually dry peat and a hint of citrus on the nose. On the palate the immediate sensation is of being caressed by molasses sugar. Long finish of butterscotch and vanilla.

Muscadet is absolutely none of these. Muscadet is low-key, low-alcohol, understated, sometimes tart, and always full of minerality.

Muscadet is made from a grape called Melon de Bourgogne.

In short, no wine pairs better with the very tradition of eating raw oysters. For years, it’s been the French bistro staple to pair with oysters.

In fact, there is nothing in the world that pairs better with raw shellfish than this white.
